Always remember: You are kind. You are curious. You are brave. You can do anything. Because you are a Belle Bear. And I love you.

Belle Bear is a spirited polar bear cub who lives in the arctic country of Mount Bearia with her beloved grandma, Baba Bear. Her days are filled with snowy games, cozy bear hugs, and magical moments—all while wearing an orange cape that makes her feel brave.

When Belle Bear and Baba Bear have to leave their home and move to a new country, Belle Bear’s world is turned upside down. There’s no snow, no other polar bears, and certainly no capes. At her new school, Belle Bear struggles to feel like she belongs, and she begins to doubt the very things that once made her feel special. But with a gentle nudge from Baba Bear and a heart full of courage, Belle Bear discovers her self-confidence and begins to make new friends who appreciate her for exactly who she is.

The Adventures of Belle Bear is a heartwarming story about moving to a new place, making new friends, and finding self-confidence in the process.

Meet the Author, Kathy Guillory

Kathy Akopov Guillory grew up in the former USSR, and her family immigrated to the United States when she was nine. School in a brand-new country was filled with challenges and uncertainty. Kathy leaned on her grandmother, Baba Emma, whose support and guidance became the inspiration behind The Adventures of Belle Bear.

After living in the south for many years as an adult, Kathy longed for a new life in a colder climate. She fell in love with Maine’s natural beauty, four seasons, and a slower pace of life. She journeyed from Georgia to Maine (like the Appalachian Trail, but by car!) and started a new life there. Upon meeting her husband, a native Mainer, she introduced herself as half Southern Belle, half Polar Bear. He immediately combined them into “Belle Bear.” The Polar Bear has become the official mascot of the Guillory Family.

Kathy’s daughters, who share her deep love of reading and have endless imagination, are a huge inspiration for Kathy. She wants to instill in them the same unwavering sense of self-confidence that Baba instilled in her.

Today, Kathy is the founder of Belle Bear Marketing, a consultancy she built with the same creativity and resilience she brings to her writing. She lives in Maine with her husband, Chris, their daughters, Emma and Eleanor, and their two dogs, Half Pint and Dr. Watson.
